Thread: Cam Question

    Default Cam Question

I have a 67 400 engine that I had rebuilt by a local machine shop. They installed cam & the heads also. When I looked at the lifters against the cam lobes, the lifters are not centered on the camshaft. Only half of the lifter is touching cam shaft lobes. The camshaft is a comp cams 280h. I can't see this being normal but I am not sure what is wrong. The camshaft plate is bolted up properly . Is there a end play spec for a hydraulic cam ? If so how can it be corrected. I can provide pics if neccesary.

You have nothing to worry about as this is done by design. The flat tappet lifters need to spin in the bores to reduce friction and wear.

Thankfully some Pontiac folks pulled up their anchors that were firmly planted in the past and started to explore new uncharted waters.
